Alterna is a premium Hair care brand and their Caviar range is designed especially for anti-aging. I got a trial set of these products from Sephora using 500 of my reward points.
The set contained four products from the Caviar range:
Smoothing Hydra Gelee (25 ml)
CC Cream 10 in 1 Hair Protector (25 ml)
Replenishing Moisture Shampoo (40 ml)
Replenishing Moisture Conditioner (40 ml)
Compared to many other sample products I've received, including those from the Sephora Rewards Bazaar, I felt these were pretty good sizes and gave enough product that you could genuinely test them.
I wanted to know how much this set was actually worth, so taking into account the normal prices of the products and the sizes I received, I worked out that it was valued at $47.75 CND. This is pretty good by Sephora rewards standards as they are normally worth a lot less.
I started using the products almost as soon as I received them as I was curious to see how well they worked. They are a premium brand and so the products are not cheap, at least to my normal standards, so I wanted to see if the price matched the results. For reference, the prices to buy the products are as follows:
The shampoo and Conditioner can be purchased in three sizes:
40 ml $13.50
250 ml $40
500 ml $61
Hydra Gelee 100 ml $35
CC 10 in 1 Cream is also in three sizes
29 ml $14
74 ml $31
150 ml $48.50
Alterna Replenishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
I found that I did not need to use too much of either of these products to get good results. The shampoo lathered up well and I only felt I needed to shampoo once. It rinsed out quickly and my hair felt clean after.
The conditioner felt silky as I massaged it into my hair and I left it on my hair for a minute or two before rinsing. After, my wet hair felt soft and my comb did not get tangled as it sometimes does.
I used these two products independently of the other products to see how my hair felt with just these. The products claim to hydrates dry hair, improve shine and softness and improves texture and manageability.
I would say they did do all of these things, but no more so that some other shampoo and conditioners I have used. I have recently been using Herbal Essences Moroccan MyShine which are really cheap at about $3 each and works just as well as the Alterna products.
Although I enjoyed using these luxury products, I could not justify paying the much extra cost over some of the cheaper brands which get similar results.

Alterna CC Cream 10 in 1 Hair Protector
I used this product both with the Alterna shampoo and conditioner and with the Herbal Essences products and it seemed to work the same with either - brilliantly! It can be used on damp hair before styling or on dry hair as a finisher.
I really, really love this product. My hair is very fine and pretty lifeless, but this product made my hair feel much thicker and more manageable. It says its 10 properties are: moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, anti-breakage, heat protection, light hold, UV protection, manageability, and strength.
My hair definitely felt smoother and softer after use and was shiny. It made it more manageable and it actually felt stronger, thicker and healthier. I love the way it made my hair feel and I have to confess to being completely surprised at how much difference it made.

Alterna Smoothing Hydra Gelee
This can be used on damp hair to style or as a finisher after styling. It is supposed to smooth frizz and provide definition and shine.
Although this product was good and did what it said, I much prefer the CC cream. I noticed a much bigger difference with the CC than this. If it were cheaper, I might consider buying it, but at $35 for 100 ml, I wouldn't.
I was really happy overall with the four products. They are all nice items and all work well. However, for the price, I cannot justify buying the shampoo or conditioner as they don't work significantly better than my Herbal Essences to warrant the cost. Likewise with the Hydra Gelee. It worked okay, but wasn't anything special and not worth the extra cost.
However, the CC Cream has really won me over. I have never in my life paid around $50 for a hair product, but if ever a product deserved its price, it's this one. I am fortunate to have a $25 coupon for Sephora that I will be using to buy the largest version of this. As I mentioned it comes in three sizes and if you work out the per ml cost the largest 5.1 fl oz/150 ml size is the best value.
I really cannot believe I'm willing to pay so much for a hair care product, but the difference it has made to my hair is really significant. I'm so glad I found this and would urge anyone else to give it a try.
