Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

So far, I have resisted buying any Huda Beauty palettes as they seem to be too glittery for my taste, but as soon as I saw the Mauve Obsessions palette, I knew I had to have it.

I adore purples and mauves, so this palette called to me as soon as I saw it. I've never experienced Huda Beauty eyeshadows before and had seen mixed reviews, but wanted to give this a try.

First off, the palette is on the small side, and I've seen other reviewers criticise this, but for me personally, I have no problem as it makes it a very portable palette. It measures 3 inches square and contains nine pans containing 1.1g of shadow each. For comparison, the Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette pans are 1.4g each.

The pans are tightly packed together, so no wasted space and there is no brush, but I never use palette brushes so this is not a problem for me.

As I mentioned, there are nine shades in all, three of them shimmers and the rest matte. They range in shades from plums, burgundy and pinks. I apologize that the photographs are not of a pristine, just unopened palette, but I just couldn't wait to try this out.

My swatches were done using a primer on the top half (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) and bare skin on the bottom. All applied using my Hakuhodo 5523 brush. They run from left to right, top to bottom.

As you can see the matte shades all performed much better over primer. The shimmers worked equally well on both, but all gave great pigmentation.

These shadows, although they swatch well, work on the eyes even better. They blended well and when I used them over primer they stayed put for over 7 hours. I also have to say that I experienced no fallout whatsoever. The shimmers take a bit of extra layering to get good coverage and I found they did not blend quite as well as the mattes, but overall they were all great shadows.

I would say they look more like berry shades once swatched or applied to the eyes, rather than mauves which I associate with purples. In use, they are more towards the red and burgundy range, rather than purples.

There are three other Obsessions palettes, which I could be tempted to buy based on my experience of this one. I didn't buy them before as I wasn't sure of how these would perform and I already have a lot of taupes and browns which are the basis of two of the palettes: Warm Brown and Smokey. The other palette called Electric has lots of bright shades which I have in several other palettes including my Viseart Editorial Brights palette which I would guess is hard to beat for pigmentation and application.

Overall, I am very impressed with this little palette and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.
