Joe Square’s Top 10: August Edition
L7 Creative’s unscientific metric of everything from culture to creative trends, using our keen agency savvy. It’s meant to entertain, keep you in the know, and raise your cool factor.
1. Tech: Xbox One S
As we continue into the future, it seems that technology is not only increasing in quality, but also decreasing in size. This is definitely the case for the new Xbox One S. The next Xbox is 40 percent smaller, has 2TB of storage, an internal power supply, and is capable of playing 4K content. That’s a lot of advanced technology if you’re willing to cough up $399.
2. Memes: Back to School
For those of you with kids, you feel my pain.
3. New Artists: Ruth B
The voice behind the song “Lost Boy,” is Ruth B herself. Despite it’s quirky lyrics, it’s climbing The Hot 100. She was unknown before her self posted 6-second snippets on Vine, quickly gained fans through the social platform, and has now been picked up by Columbia Records.
4. Fashion: Business Casual
5. Entertainment: Pokémon Go
Pokémon is back! Whether this evokes nostalgia or nausea for you, Pokémon is back in a big way and it’s on everybody’s mind…and smart phone!
6. Celebrities: Ke$ha
Ke$ha recently announced that she will be going on an end of summer tour and performing new music. We are happy to see Ke$ha making a comeback after her recent sexual harassment lawsuit with her label. Welcome back, Ke$ha! We missed you.
7. Blogs: Passive-Aggressive Notes
You. Can’t. Stop. Reading. These passive-aggressive notes submitted by real people are so clever and hilarious, it makes you wish you thought of them first.
8. Advertising: Snapchat Ads Based on Images? Crazy!
Business Insider recently found a patent that would allow for Snapchat to add filters based on your Snapchat image. For example, if you were to take a picture of a coffee cup, then a Starbucks geotag would be available to you.
9. Mobile & Web: The Bitmoji’s are coming!
Snapchat has linked Bitmoji to allow you to send those hilarious and sassy little characters inside snapchats. This new addition makes for hours of entertainment. Snapchat’s on a roll!
10. Sports: Rio 2016 Olympics
From synchronized swimming to trampolining, you’re sure to find a sport you’ll enjoy watching at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Even if you are not a sports fan, the opening ceremony will be great TV! Check out some of the more unusual events: The Nine Most Unusual Olympic Sports.
