The Myth of the Self-Made Millionaire

I am in several Facebook groups, and something has hit me like a Mack Truck. The default in most Entrepreneurs thinking is that they have to do it alone, that they have to be a self-made Millionaire.

Here’s the scenario: There’s an idea in a group, and everyone thinks it is the next big thing.  Everyone in the group talks about their struggles and their pains and the reasons it will not work for them. The next move is the group runs out of excitement about this new thing that can be done and you never see someone in the group come back a millionaire from the brilliant idea. Why? Because somehow the definition of entrepreneur has defaulted to “by myself” thinking instead of “let’s work together” mentality.

Entrepreneurs do not want to hire teams; no designers, no coders, no transcriptionists, no marketing teams, no ad space, no accountants, no coaches, NO ONE to help them do the hard work of actually building and growing a Business. They are in a group full of like-minded people, and none of those like minds come together to make the idea a reality.

Become a Millionaire with a Team

It is the Google effect. People can learn anything, but does that mean they should?  I am an avid and fast learner. One of my resume iterations listed my learning curve as one of my soft skills.  However, as I grow and build my business, I pit the $25/hr cost of a virtual assistant doing something right and professionally the first time against what I can do right and professionally for my business the second, third, fourth or fifth time.  Hiring the assistant does not always garner a win, but as I get more and more serious about building a business, it wins more and more.

#Entrepreneurs, you aren't alone. Benefits of having a #team help grow your #biz.

Having a team has become so vital to me that watching Shark Tank is now a shouting sport for me.  Why wouldn’t you take cash and a team?  Why?  These entrepreneurs come onto the show because they have a business with a problem and they do not want to give up part of their business to bring on one or more of the most powerful entrepreneur business builders out there to help them solve the problem.  They would rather do it themselves than give up part of their dream.

Then they go home to solve the same problem they had when they got to the show, and they are back to doing it alone.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again with the same result.  If you have been in the same business making the same money with the same client base, you need to do something different, with someone different.

Making yourself a millionaire by yourself is not how it is done. No one does it that way, and you do not have to either.

How do I know? Paul C. Brunson ordained the “Modern Day Hitch” by Oprah Winfrey for his prowess as a matchmaker, started an idea to mentor entrepreneurs through a live-streamed show, #MentorMonday.  As the show grew, Paul’s need for a producer grew.  What did he do? He did not leave his entire business in his own hands; he gave me a considerable percentage of the enterprise to make it a business, to make it profitable.  It is how Tony Robbins, Marie Forleo, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Dr. Dennis Kimbro, and so many other successful entrepreneurs have built global businesses. Building a team – the right team – only makes your business stronger.  All the millionaires know it.

The Smart Hustle on this?  If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.
