Figma Designs and How to Appropriately Price Your Work

Figma has become the most popular web based design editing tool. It’s especially suited for team collaboration during prototyping.

When it comes to Figma, one of the biggest questions that crops up for web design professionals is how much they should be charging per page for their Figma Designs. This is the burning question for any budding freelancer because the going rates are hard to nail down and vary wildly.

The range of price points is the first issue to address. A Figma design is such a broad concept, a project could range from straight forward edits all the way to a months long project encompassing brainstorming, user research, strategy, and a variety of unique assets. The first step is where on the spectrum of difficulty the services will lie.

There are two routes to go down for Billing a client. Clients often prefer a per project or milestone billing method as it’s the most straightforward for them, they have an exact number to budget for the project. However, on the freelancer side hourly billing can often be more advantageous. It’s difficult to know for sure how long a project will take, so when billing on a project basis the hourly rate earned drops as more work is done. It’s recommended to either work on an hourly basis, or if the client pushes back on this, give them a project based price with plenty of extra built in just in case the project runs over the initial time estimates.

This may not be the most satisfying answer, but the price to charge per page for Figma designs is based entirely on the time, effort, and quality of the end product. Ideally, a competitive hourly rate can be settled on depending on the freelancer’s expertise. There may be no blanket right answer, but there’s a number out there for everyone to find.
