Computer Science Student Seeks Advice From Seasoned Front End Developers

In a discussion group for site designers and developers, one person wanted to know how a web developer can find assets for a site. They said they are currently in school for a Computer Science degree. They are leaning toward a job in front-end development. They have a lot of creativity, and they think front-end development would be the best way to highlight their combination of skills.

They want to know how they can find an animated character to add onto a site. They wondered if those are assets to be bought or if one has to code them. This individual added that they want to create a good portfolio, but they do not know how to get started with the graphics to use in it. At the same time as they are trying to build a portfolio, they are also trying to keep up good grades in their program.

One person wrote back to the Poster and told them to work with an artist or graphic designer on that type of thing. Perhaps they could form a partnership doing that with another student, and they could both benefit from the additions to their portfolios. Another person advised the original poster to stop worrying about being so flashy. The original poster agreed.

Because the original poster has dreams of becoming a full-stack developer, they were hoping that someone who does this for a living would write back to them. One such person did, and they stated that they do implementation. They do not do any design work. Their agency has an in-house graphic design team that handles animated characters and artistic features on sites. The programmer said that the original poster should find somebody on Fiverr to do this for them.

Another person had a few tips for the original poster. Their guidance was for the original poster to get an account on Figma. That platform has a large community, and there is an entire section of free assets that anybody can use. A different person suggested that the original poster take the time to learn animation programming in CSS.
