Sometimes, all you need is a little motivation. That motivation can look different for different people. For Charis Miller, founder to Tiger Lily Paperie, motivation appeared in the form of discouragement from a family member. Luckily for us, Charis knew that she was capable of everything that she imagined. One of the first steps she took when getting her business off the ground was creating a logo using Logojoy. We asked her to tell us a bit about her experiences and her inspiration; here’s her story.
What inspired you to start a business?
I always knew I wanted to work for myself. When I was 18, I was told by a family member that I would never be able to spend the time I want with my future family. I said, “watch me”. I will never forget that. In that moment, I decided that, no matter what, my children will have their mommy in their life AND I will run a successful business that celebrates where my many blessings have come from. I enjoy the freedom of owning my own life, spending the time I want with my children and husband, and saying “I told you so”.
Where do you get business advice from?
Over the years I have had many mentors in my life. They have introduced me to some amazing books, seminars, and in general put me in the presence of other movers and shakers. From those experiences, I have learned how to seek information. I have many community leaders I seek advice from as well as staying plugged in with national leadership advisors and entrepreneurs.
How long have you had this idea for before you started to look for a logo?
Over the past 3 years, I have treated my business as a hobby. It wasn’t until mid 2011, after the birth of my second child, that I decided to truly take this seriously. At first, I was throwing ideas at the wall to see what stuck, but then I prayed and I envisioned what kind of legacy I want to leave my children. Later that year, I decided to quit my full-time very stable job and pursue my dream full force. I wanted this process to take as long as it needed to be exactly what I wanted it to be. I took my time and finally had a dream of what I wanted my logo to look like. I could see it everywhere, and knew that I would be led to where I could get it. And here we are and I have the best depiction of my business exemplified in my logo.
What’s next for Tiger Lily Paperie?
Another part of Tiger Lily Paperie is Social Media Content for local ministries. This is something very dear to me and something I have felt led to for very long. Now that our launch has happened, we will be focusing our new found “extra time” in helping our local ministry and nonprofits with their social media presence and provide content to make the most impact possible. So I would say those are the next steps for us along with attending as many local pop-up markets to be able to meet more of our community and to get our brand out there.
