Metal Gear Solid – Bringing Back Huge Thrills Since 1998

Metal Gear Solid by Konami is a classic espionage game. First released for the original PlayStation in 1998, the game takes the form of a mission to infiltrate a nuclear weapons facility. It was groundbreaking because of its cut scenes with impressive graphics and because of its infrared glasses feature. Because it used voice acting at every stage of the game, instead of just in cut scenes, it was an important step in making video games more like interactive movies. The fact that it features an unarmed protagonist means that players must rely on their wits and quick reflexes in order to advance in the game; the goal is to avoid being noticed by enemies, rather than to fight. It’s storyline is so complicated and engaging that it is entertaining to watch a friend play the game, even when you yourself are not playing. MGS was one of the first games to use 3D graphics, which eventually became to norm in video game. It is considered a highly influential game.
