Rocket League for Mac: Now improved with an ‘Autumn Update’

Rocket League sure took its time to come to macOS, but when it finally did on September 8, 2016, it changed Mac online multiplayer gaming for good:

Yes, it’s really happening! After several delays (and our sincerest apologies about that, btw), the SteamOS and Mac versions of the game will finally be available for download.

An important thing to note, however, is that both versions are still considered “beta”.

Those beta days are long gone and Rocket League today is one of the best Mac games you can play today.

Available on Steam, Rocket League is an extremely popular game that combines football with supersonic battle-cars. And even after all these years, Rocket League is still one of the most popular games out there, especially for online multiplayer gamers and e-sports fans.

The reason why Rocket League remains as relevant today as it was when it was first released, is the amount of content and updates developer Psyonix keeps pushing out.

There’s something new almost every month (like new cars, arenas, etc), but their latest Autumn Update is on a whole new level.

Making a good game even better

There are so many changes here that covering all of them would be impossible.

But the biggest ones, including a new arena, new items and quality of life changes are the following:

  • They’ve added a new seasonal arena called Farmstead.
  • They’ve redesigned ‘Wasteland’ and ‘Starbase ARC’ as Standard Arenas.
  • They’ve added more than 90 free new items to customize your vehicles
  • They’ve added a feature called Transparent Goalposts to prevent the camera from cutting off the action (my favorite)

And regarding Mac-specific updates:

  • The Steam Controller now works as intended on Mac hardware

You can read their official patch notes for all the details.

Never buy a Mac game based on a promise

I have to bring this up again. Rocket League is a good reminder that you should never buy a game based on a promise.

Rocket League was first announced in August 2015. Then it was confirmed for December 2015. Then it was delayed to Q2 2016. And then it was supposed to come 6 to 8 weeks later. Over a year went by between the first release date and the actual release.

You should always wait until the Mac version is officially out before taking out your wallet. I bought it early on and sat there with my copy for months without being able to play it. Things ended well this time, but why risk it?

And I’m not raining on Rocket League’s parade here. Rocket League rocks, the Mac version is top notch and a number of free updates they keep delivering is impressive.

My advice? Go get it right now!

You can purchase Rocket League Mac version on Steam.
