Ace Combat 7 is pretty good - while the sparse checkpoints are a bit of a bummer, it’s otherwise a thrilling romp through some over-the-top Michael Bay action scenes in top-of-the-line fighting aircraft, all lovingly rendered for modern 3D hardware. Well, except for the dog. Since its launch Friday, players have been noticing that a dog who appears in one of Ace Combat 7’s cutscenes looks a bit… off. As one character steps off a passenger plane to meet two young women on the runway, their canine companion stands stock-still - you might even say, stock photo still. You see, this particular very good boy is a 2-dimensional image, a lone JPEG (or perhaps a PNG or even a TIFF) in a crowd of high-polygon models. He sits placidly beside his human friends, with the only detectable movement coming from the heat waves coming off the tarmac. Ace Combat 7 players have taken to the internet to express their joy at the discovery of the JPEG dog. Patrick Boivin (one of the erstwhile Super Best Friends), couldn’t contain his glee when he noticed the image during his Twitch stream.
