Microsoft buy cloud gaming platform PlayFab

In an astounding coincidence of timing, Microsoft have announced they’ve acquired Cloud platform provider Playfab. The acquisition bolsters Microsoft’s development of cloud infrastructure with Azure, and PlayFab’s tools have aided in the production of games across PC, consoles, and mobile devices.

PlayFab tech has been implemented across 1,200 games, and has been used by companies including Disney, Bandai Namco, Rovio, Capcom, and Wizards of the Coast. The company’s services have been particularly useful in the modern era of service-driven, digitally distributed games, with services to help developers “engage, retain and monetize players.”
