It took me two full days to start enjoying Lawbreakers. At first its insistent focus on hovering, dashing movements, and aerial combat, felt like it turned each round into a nonsense of befuddled moths beating against a lightbulb. That was then, though. Now I think it’s brilliant.

It’s always such a risk to make calls like that in the first few days of an online shooter’s lifespan, before who knows how many balance patches and content expansions - tomorrow we might be talking about a different game, in which the ponderous Juggernaut class suddenly becomes dominant. Today, though, Boss Key’s LawBreakers is laying the kind of foundation that a continued and - whisper it - competitive scene can grow from.
