Death Stranding Create The Rope Trailer Unveiled Alongside Release Date

After hours of waiting, Death Stranding’s latest trailer has been fully revealed, accompanied by a November 8th, 2019 release.

In typical Death Stranding fashion, the trailer was announced a couple days in advance, and on release day was streamed under a coat of opaque oil and filtered sound. Over the course of several hours, the trailer was gradually unveiled by a series of moving handprints. In it, we can see more of… whatever was happening storywise in the other trailers. It appears that Sam Bridges (Norman Reedus’ character) must fight against terrorist cells and ghostly monsters to rebuild America after some apocalyptic event.

Via the PlayStation Blog, Kojima released the following message:

“Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the ‘Strand’ or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or ‘Strands’ with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.”

More pertinent, however, is the detailed gameplay reveal. A variety of locales are showcased, along with a decent amount of customization for Sam’s appearance and clothing. Assorted traversal gear was demonstrated, including an extendable ladder and climbing rope. Kojima’s signature attention to detail does not appear lost here, and it’s good to finally see it. Also of note is the reveal of melee and ranged combat, and the notion that enemies can whack your equipment off of you, though that doesn’t appear too frustrating.

A day prior, the release date of the game was reported on by several outlets. The source of this were an Italian journalist by the name of Antonio Fucito, and a deleted post on the Taiwanese PlayStation Facebook page. An image of the preorder advertisement was also posted on the PS Store. It describes that Sam Bridges (Norman Reedus’ character) must “brave a world transformed by the Death Stranding”. Pre-orders gain access to a PS4 dynamic theme, a chibi Ludens PSN avatar, and a bunch of gold cosmetic items that are earned in-game. Since then, the various special editions have also been detailed on the PlayStation blog, featuring everything from a steelbook and soundtrack to a life-sized BB Pod statue.

Death Stranding will be available on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019. Starting today, the Standard, Special, Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of the game are available for pre-order at price points of $79.99 CAD for the Standard Edition, $89.99 CAD for the Special Edition, $99.99 CAD for the Digital Deluxe Edition and $249.99 CAD for the Collector’s Edition.
