Shaquille O'Neal will help lead an esports team

Shaq: I plan to help build the most dominant franchise in 2K

Shaquille O'Neal is not only remembered for being one of the best basketball players in history, but also for being the star behind the infamous Shaq Fu. That said, the NBA star wants to start a new facet in the world of video games by helping a team of esports to achieve glory.

As of today, Shaquille O'Neal is the new general manager of Kings Guard Gaming, an NBA 2K team owned by the Sacramento Kings of the NBA. In this role, O'Neal will give "valuable basketball consultancy" for the team to evaluate the 102 players that will be available in the April 4th draft and assemble a team capable of competing at the highest level.

"I'm excited about my role in Kings Guard. Just as I dominated the field, the music industry, the entertainment business, the nicknames and the broadcasts, I plan to help build the most dominant franchise in [NBA] 2K, "Shaq said.
In a statement, Ryan Montoya, head of Esports for the Sacramento Kings, was excited to have Shaq in their ranks. He also stressed that his experience and his popularity will be essential to build a competitive team.

"Shaq's global appeal combined with his knowledge and passion for the game will be invaluable as we work to build a team of elite gamers who are passionate and competitive team players," Montoya said.

Now, it is important to clarify that Shaq is not a complete stranger in the competitive gaming world. In fact, the legendary athlete is an investor in NRG esports, a team that stands out for its participation in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments. With all this, it is clear that you see a bright future in this market.
