Poké Balls are the main device used to capture Pokémon, it’s important to have a good supply of these balls at all times. You never know when you’re about to encounter a shiny Pokémon or one missing from your Pokédex. Throughout your playthrough, you’ll discover a variety of different balls to choose from. These can often be a bit overwhelming, you really don’t want to use the wrong Ball at the wrong time, it’ll cost you in-game money and possibly even letting the Pokémon get away. To help you decide which balls you should be using, here’s the top 10 best Poké Balls in Pokémon!
10. Poké Ball
9. Nest Ball
This ball is one of the best in Pokémon for filling your Pokédex, it’s easily obtainable in all games yet is super useful for acquiring more Pokémon. It has a normal 1x catch rate that increases depending on how low the level of the Pokémon you’re trying to catch is. At level 20, the catch rate is 2x and at level 5, the catch rate is 3.5x which is basically a guaranteed catch. As you can see, its perfect for catching those low level Pokémon to fill up your Pokédex!
8. Net Ball
With a 3x catch-rate when used on Water or Bug type Pokémon, the Net Ball is one of those balls that you should have at least a few of in your inventory. It’ll help massively for certain encounters, giving you a much higher chance of securing that Lapras you want so much. It has a 1x catch rate when used on a Pokémon outside of these two types though, so only use it when it’s relevant!
7. Fast Ball
It can be difficult to get your head around this ball. As the name suggests, the Fast Ball’s catch rate increases depending on the Speed stat of the Pokémon you’re trying to catch. It has a normal 1x catch rate for Pokémon under 100 Speed but for any Pokémon with higher speed? A huge 4x catch rate!
6. Heavy Ball
While this ball has some negatives, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. The catch rate grows larger based on the weight of the Pokémon you’re attempting to capture, while it decreases if the Pokémon is small. A lot of the heavier Pokémon are difficult to catch with normal balls so having a Heavy Ball at the ready is a huge boon to your Pokédex aspirations!
5. Timer Ball
We’ve all experienced the fabled “20 turns legendary battle”. You’re constantly applying status effects and throwing balls at that Mewtwo, you’re reviving your KO’d Pokémon to return to the fight once again, this goes on for ages. This is where the Timer Ball shines, the catch rate increases for each turn that has passed, up to a maximum of 4x. The Timer Ball should be used in any legendary Pokémon fight, it’ll contribute massively to capturing it!
4. Friend Ball
Although it has a normal catch rate of 1x, the Friend Ball is particularly useful for catching Pokémon who evolve when their friendship level reaches a certain point. Upon capturing a Pokémon inside one of these balls, the friendship level automatically increases to 200. A Pokémon like Sylveon will be easily obtainable with a Friend Ball, making it yet another great option for completing your Pokédex.
3. Quick Ball
I remember when I first got my hands on a few of these balls, the game became so much easier. It has a huge 4x catch rate when thrown immediately after a wild Pokémon encounter, the rate is reduced to 1x afterwards so you should only ever use it at the start of the battle. You need to have some of these in your inventory, I guarantee your playthrough will be made a hundred times easier.
2. Ultra Ball
It’s expensive but it’s also the best late-game ball you can acquire in droves. All other balls with high catch-rate cannot be obtained as easily as the Ultra Ball, you’re already aware of how useful it is. It only has a 2x catch rate but such a stat is reliable and always at-hand. For this reason, it has to make the 2nd spot on this list!
1. Master Ball
The Master Ball had to take the top spot by a country mile, no other ball compares to it. A huge 255x (100%) catch rate will allow you to procure any Pokémon you wish in a matter of mere seconds. You can only get 1 per game reliably, of course there are certain ways to get more but you’ll have to grind for ages. I wasn’t sure about putting this ball in the number 1 spot due to how hard it is to get but it’s just so good, my doubts were quickly squashed.
