Top 10 Best Daggers in Skyrim

The smallest of weapons, yet among the deadliest. Daggers are powerful little armaments, they’re easy to conceal and don’t take up much space. Often used by mages and assassins, daggers are a good choice for those who don’t have the skill to wield swords, or require something a bit more subtle for their dirty work. Wielding two daggers at once provides double the lethality, as I’m sure you’re aware. If you’re a fan of daggers in Skyrim and you want to know which ones you need to keep your eye out for, you’ve come to the right place. Take a look at the top 10 best daggers in Skyrim!

10. Valdr’s Lucky Dagger

Damage: 5

Taking on the apperance of a Steel Dagger is Valdyr’s lucky dagger, which despite having low base Damage, is an awesome dagger to obtain early on. At no point should you bother using this as soon as you can use those higher on the list but for a low level character? It’s perfect. It has a 25% chance to critically hit per strike, but this is not considered an enchantment so you can add something else to it as well. The critical hit takes it up 7.5 base damage which puts it higher than Orcish and even Dwarven daggers!

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Really easily, you simply find Valdr sitting outside Moss Mother Cavern. You need to heal him (giving him a Healing Potion will do the job), he’ll then ask you to clear out a relatively straightforward cave. Upon reaching the end, Valdr will reward you with this dagger.

9. Glass Dagger

Damage: 9

You can’t help but love the appearance of Glass items, they look absolutely incredible and the glass dagger is no exception. It’s a good choice for those Dragonborns who are just starting to make it in the world, but a low base damage means you should abandon it as soon as you start hitting a high level.

(Spoilers) How to obtain: This dagger can be looted or bought after reaching level 20.

8. Bloodthorn

Damage: 8

Yet another steel dagger lookalike, Bloodthorn is quite useful depending on how you use soul gems, if at all. As expected from a steel dagger, it does have low base damage but it’s great for finishing enemies off if you can make use of the enchantment. If an enemy dies within 3 seconds of being struck by Bloodthorn, it’s soul is stolen and placed inside a soul gem.

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Found on a balcony in Hag’s End.

7. Ebony Dagger

Damage: 10

Ebony daggers have a relatively high base damage, they’re the best choice for players who are fairly deep into their adventures. It’s on the list for having a higher damage than most of its counter-parts but in all honesty, it’s not the greatest dagger in Skyrim. If you read the spoiler, you’ll see its not the easiest to obtain and you might find yourself skipping the Ebony variant of your favorite weapon type.

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Similar to the Glass dagger, except you need to reach level 35.

6. Stalhrim Dagger

Damage: 10

Ebony daggers have the same base damage as Stalhrim you say? Yeah, you’re right. But Stalhrim daggers have 0.5 less weight than Ebony daggers, giving them the advantage on this list. Although this is down to opinion, Stalhrim daggers look much better than Ebony daggers, which basically look like sticks.

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Only available in the Dragonborn DLC, can be looted or purchased from merchants.

5. Daedric Dagger

Damage: 11

Lets be honest, most of us love the daedric weapons not for their power, but for the appearance. Regardless of our daedric intentions, the dagger is one of the most powerful in the game. It does weigh nearly as much as any other in Skyrim but it’s a dagger, so weight isn’t really relevant as they’re always low. Make this your main dagger asap after finding one, you won’t regret it!

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Available as loot after level 46, can also be purchased from merchants.

4. Dragonbone Dagger

Damage: 12

In terms of raw base dps, the Dragonbone dagger is unrivaled, no other dagger in Skyrim deals as much damage. It has the fastest attack speed and the joint most base damage. If you’re able to obtain one of these daggers, you’ll likely use it as your main source of damage, but it won’t be the most useful..

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Only available with the Dawnguard DLC

3. Mehrune’s Razor

Damage: 11

Perhaps the most recognisable dagger on the list, Mehrune’s Razor is a unique weapon with an epic appearance and powerful effect. The base damage is great as well, being the same as a normal daedric dagger. Although it’s possibly unreliable, the enchantment gives the wielder a 2% chance of instantly killing their enemy upon striking them with Mehrune’s Razor. As you can see, this is indeed a powerful dagger.

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Only obtainable by killing Silus Vesuius during the quest Pieces of the Past, if you choose to spare Silus then Mehrune’s Razor cannot be acquired.

2. Keening

Damage: 8

Another unique dagger, this one is particularly interesting. With such a low base damage, why is it the 2nd best dagger? Because of its enchantment that absorbs 10 Health, Magicka and Stamina upon strike. Nope it doesn’t just decrease, it absorbs. Such an effect is immensely powerful, but its appearance also boosts its ranking, everyone likes to look unique don’t they?!

(Spoilers) How to obtain: During a quest given by Arniel Gane at the College of Winterhold, you are tasked with retrieving Keening after a long quest.

1. Blade of Woe

Damage: 12

Holding the trophy for the highest base damage of any dagger in the entire game is the Blade of Woe. One more well known dagger, I’m sure every Elder Scrolls player recognises this dagger’s name. Although it does have a more modest appearance than others on the list, it’s the easiest dagger to obtain with the highest damage and comes with a fairly decent enchantment. It absorbs 10 Health upon hitting an enemy which in all fairness, is nothing to shout about. But overall it is the best dagger in the game, without a doubt!

(Spoilers) How to obtain: Held by Astrid of the Dark Brotherhood, it can be acquired by killing her and looting her corpse, or completing the Death Incarnate quest.
