FMGuido’s monthly digest – February 2017

Welcome to the first edition of FMGuido’s Monthly Digest.

Every month, there is so much good content published in the world of Football Manager. Actually, there is so much good FM content published that it can easily “get lost in the woods”.

That’s why I’ve put together this monthly roundup to help you maneuver through and find all the best content from the last month.

It’s my little hope that these monthly nuggets of content will be interesting reads and help you appreciate Football Manager even more.

So, without further ado… let’s get started…

What if… Barcelona and Real Madrid moves to the MLS

http://sonnorcteer.com/gaming/barcelona-real-madrid-moved-mls

First off, we have a post in the ever more popular genre of experiments within Football Manager.

This time around, it’s Barcelona and Real Madrid who are moved to the MLS. This of course has consequences both in the MLS and back home in Spain.

I was quite surprised with the result of the experiment and there are definitely some quirky FM mechanics that plays out in this experiment.

Another thing that rocks is that sonnorcteer (the author) really went above and beyond, simming the game 30 years into the future.

Make sure to read to the end where there is a rather large surprise in Portugal.

The Juventus gambit; Why Hoarding Players Can Pay Off

In this post, Guido #1, StrikerlessGuido documents a fantastic way to make money in FM: Signing players with the goal of loaning them out for money.

The articles documents why you should do so and the do’s and don’ts of the strategy.

Using this strategy, StrikerlessGuido made €27 million in a single season with a Japanese team so the strategy can pay off hugely.

Stop the slump – a guide to getting out of trouble in Football Manager 2017

http://deeplyingpodcast.co.uk/advice/stop-slump-guide-getting-trouble-football-manager-2017/

We’ve all been there. You start a new game in FM, everything’s going great and then suddenly you start conceding goals, losing games and there’s nothing you can do about it.

In this article, George Osborn investigates what to do when the slump hits and how you methodically can analyze your problems to get out of the slump.

What’s even better is that although the article is written for getting out of slumps, the tools used can really be used by any team. After all, no matter how well you’re doing there’s always room for improvement.

2016/17 Premier League managers in CM01/02

Probably the funniest post in this Monthly Digest comes from Reddit user Hippopottermus.

What he does is painstakingly simple: He checks out the attributes of every current Premier League manager (pre the Ranieri sacking) in CM 01/02.

He mixes this with a highly personal and humorous writing style and there’s no doubt who he likes and who are lower down on his totem pole.

I made the National North/South rich. Very rich.

Remember at the start where I said FM experiments are growing ever more popular?

Well here’s another one. In this image heavy, text-light post, an imgur user named fmthrow, gives every team in the conference north/south a war chest of £1 billion and a 5 star reputation.

He then simulated his FM game to 2029 and documents what happened along the way.

The experiment has it all. Without revealing too much there are both bankruptcies and Premier League teams at the end and its highly entertaining.
