The summer releases from Teknamic Software have arrived, the Portuguese publisher dedicated to supporting the publication of new games for old platforms, and to reissuing classics as a tribute to their creators and pioneers.

With these three new releases, Teknamic has stepped up a notch in terms of the Cassette presentation. Instead of the usual paper insert for the cassette cover alone, the graphical elements are printed in the acrylic case itself and the paper insert contains the background, making, the once boring media, worth a premium location in anyone’s collection displays. The tapes also display the game art, it shows Teknamic’s care for the products it sells.

Although I would even buy blank tapes like that, we can’t forget to talk about the games that are being launched. The first one, ZOINHO NO JARDIM DOS TOLOS (something like “Little eye (a cyclops!) in the garden of the fools”), is an isometric adventure game, programmed by Brazilian Ricardo Nunes, that is certainly a challenge for Knight Lore fans. Some of the mysteries of this garden, including its creatures, are described in the booklet that accompanies the “big box” edition.

But those who prefer only the jewel box, have a beautiful cassette waiting for them which, in addition to containing the 3 translated versions of Zoinho (English, Portuguese and Spanish), is a real treat for the eyes.

/\O[] (Triangle – Circle – Square) is the latest creation of Paulo Andrés, author of the acclaimed Devwill Too ZX and Virgil’s Purgatory, which embraces the graphical limitations of the ZX Spectrum and MSX as abstract production tools.

The result is a platform and puzzle game, inspired by Mondrian’s abstract paintings and Kandinsky’s basic shapes.

The cassette, which contains the ZX and MSX versions, was designed as an art object, a physical extension of the digital game. Teknamic and Paulo wanted to go further and turned the inert acrylic box into a canvas.

The last one, A LENDA DA GÁVEA (The Legend of the Gavea) is a reissue of a classic game. Considered a milestone in the history of video games in Brazil, this was the first Brazilian graphic adventure for the ZX Spectrum, created by Luiz Fernandes de Moraes with “The Graphic Adventure Creator”.

This adventure, which turned 35 in 2022, is inspired by the mysteries of Pedra da Gávea, a mountain in the Tijuca Forest, Rio de Janeiro. Beautiful images drawn by Luiz combined with a story entirely in Portuguese (no translated version available at this time). A new beeper song, composed by the Portuguese Pedro Pimenta was added for this release.

The “big box” edition includes a booklet with the context around the mysteries of the Stone, tips and personal testimony from the author, as is a hallmark of Teknamic’s luxury releases.
