The Cornish Arms – Review

Ok guys, I’ve been a bit quiet lately. However, that’s because I’ve been busy moving to Australia! I’m currently living in Melbourne and it’s been a busy few weeks moving and settling in.

But I’m back now and ready for some new posts! Melbourne is insane for vegan food, which means I’ve spent the last few weeks eating my way around the place. It’s just so hard to resist when there’s delicious new vegan food to try left, right and centre.

Anyway, on Saturday myself and Sam decided to head down to The Cornish Arms for some dinner and drinks. I’d heard it was a good place to eat for vegans in Melbourne so I was keen to try it out, and seriously I was not disappointed.

The Cornish Arms is a really chilled-out pub with a great atmosphere. When we arrived we got some drinks, and I started off with a mojito (before we then decided to get a jug…whoops).

There was seriously so much to choose from on the menu and loads of fab mock-meat style foods. We decided to start by getting some spicy ‘chicken’ wings to share. Whilst they may not look like the most beautiful thing in the world, they tasted amazing. The texture was really realistic and the dipping sauce was yummy too.

Next up, I decided to go for something completely different and get the fisherman’s basket, which came with salad, chips and tartare sauce. It included gardein fish, calamari and prawns. Seriously, whoever says vegans only eat grass need to check themselves. This was insane. The breaded fish really had a fishy taste and like the chicken wings, had the perfect texture and was flaky just like real fish. Having not had calamari pre-vegan I didn’t know how realistic or not it was, but it tasted yum and I imagine it was pretty close. Finally, the prawns were also delicious and whilst not as fishy, were really good.

Never one to pass an opportunity to have dessert that is not fruit based (seriously, why do restaurants think vegans only want fruit?) I decided to get delicious chocolate brownies with ice cream. It was super chocolatey and oozey and just all round fab. I couldn’t finish it though because honestly I’d already eaten way too much and wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to move again.

For anyone who is interested in finding really delicious vegan food in Melbourne, then The Cornish Arms is definitely one to check out. It has a range of omni food too, if you’re heading out with those who haven’t yet converted to the vegan life. But who knows, maybe once they get there they’ll decide that the vegan way of life isn’t so hard after all.
