Q&A with Christopher Elliott

Film: Lost Penny
Actor: Christopher Elliott
Role: Lucien

Lucien, played by Christopher Elliott
Q: Which role do you play?
A: Lucien is a complex character, extremely determined to achieve his goal. He is unable to settle for anything less than this.

Q: How did you prepare for your role?
A: I created Lucien and his past entirely out of my imagination, thanks to the gifts imparted to me from Adler Technique.

Q: Did you identify with your character?
A: I certainly can identify with him in a way. I find that the potential for us to do evil is always there, if we fall far enough from the path God wants us on, and get swayed by the constant attacks in the unseen world trying to destroy us by swaying us. The difference is, and there are definitely things I have done which I regret but it's only because of God's love and grace that I can keep trying to walk in a way that pleases him, which is my desire, as opposed to Lucien's desire which is ultimate destruction of all things ultimately including himself i think, ironically.

Lucien bends over to help Penny after she's fainted.

Q: What was your favorite scene to film?
A: After filming them all, I have to say they were all my favourites, and working with an Italian American actor in the last scene was the highlight, I would say.

Q: What was the most challenging scene for you?
A: One small challenge was ensuring the vial in my last scene was visible, and it didn't occur to me till I was on the plane home that if I held it in my other hand it may have been more visible. Hopefully it still worked.

Q: What did you enjoy the most about working on this film?
A: Seeing the amazing cinematography and camera angles as the film progressed, and being around amazing role models for my life.

Q: What is your greatest fear?
A: Speaking out what my greatest fear is.

Q: Do you have any funny stories or anecdotes about working on the film?
A: Well there was one scene when Penny was tied to the tree where I thought I would try something quite evil but it didn't really come off. I loved Robert's response.

Q: Who inspires you as an actor?
A: De Niro, Pacino, Michael Douglas.

Q: When did the acting bug bite you?
A: In about 1988 when I was sitting alone in my apartment in Eaglemont, Victoria, Australia and thought I'd love to be an Actor, after seeing my brother host kids TV shows.

Q: What is the best advice you ever got from Mom?
A: When I was in my teens and she would drive me to youth group and back and mention things like "Isn't it amazing the way God made the trees and the plants", etc., sharing about His creation. It was advice that was wrapped in a way that it didn't look like advice.
