I can’t believe that September is nearly here (wasn’t it the beginning of May just last week?) but I’m so excited because the movies that I have been looking forward to are finally on the horizon. September will be a great month for films (for me) because I have three lined up that I cannot wait to see.
Release date: September 2nd, 2016
I only recently found out about Morgan and once I discovered the premise, it shot to the top of my “must-see” list. As near as I can tell, Morgan is about an artificially created child named Morgan (but of course) that begins to throw “tantrums” that happen to hurt people in the process. A specialist is brought in to decide whether or not Morgan should be “terminated.” As one who studies science fiction cinema, especially where artificial life is concerned (whether it’s biological or mechanical makes little difference, artificial life is artificial life), I’m extremely interested to see how this film will handle the Frankenstein complex (fear of mechanical/artificial life) and I hope it’s a spectacular as it looks.
2. The Magnificent Seven
Release date: September 23rd, 2016
I still have some reservations about this film, given the high esteem I have for the 1960 version. But I’m willing to give it a chance based on the cast and the fact that this film contains the final posthumous score from James Horner. Personally, I don’t think The Magnificent Seven needed a remake, but who knows, maybe it will be good (it certainly doesn’t look boring). I am pleased that they’re giving the characters different names from the 1960 version (it differentiates them somewhat). Chris Pratt looks like he’ll be great (I’ve liked his work ever since I saw Guardians of the Galaxy). There will definitely be a review after this movie comes out.
3. Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Release date: September 30th, 2016
I haven’t been able to read the book yet, but I am familiar with the premise of this story. I’m intrigued by the idea of a secret world where people with “oddities” can live in peace. Also the film stars Eva Green (Penny Dreadful, Casino Royale), and she is one of my favorite actresses, so I know any scene with her in it will be amazing!
And those are the three films I’m looking forward to next month. What films are you anticipating in the month of September? I’ll be back with my regular Lion King and Lord of the Rings series starting tomorrow, so until then, try and have a good Monday -Becky
