Seth MacFarlane has become a staple in American cartoon comedy as he’s labelled all over FAMILY GUY. He’s also dived into the film world with the hilarious TED and not so hilarious TED 2, all about a talkative teddy bear with a bad attitude.
Heading back to TV for a new series, MacFarlane is creating a sci-fi series, which seems like a comedy version of STAR TREK from what he’s described.
“Set 300 years in the future, the show follows the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.”
With that, he’s already got one person on board in a big role. Jon Favreau is attached to direct the pilot episode as MacFarlane glad announced on Twitter:
“Could not be happier to have the brilliant, multitalented Jon Favreau directing our new Fox pilot.”
Like I said, it’s sounding pretty fun already, after all we’ve never had many hilarious sci-fi comedies and maybe this will be something new and fresh. Fevreau is a talent himself, recently directing JUNGLE BOOK and having kicked off the Marvel films with IRON MAN as well.
The series, titled ORVILLE, is set for production in January and expected to premiere on FOX in 2017/18.
