Disney are taking an odd turn in their work over recent time as we’ve seen CINDERELLA made as live action, MALEFICENT as a twisted live action tale and THE JUNGLE BOOK also getting the live action treatment. Are Disney just out to remake everything live action now, as it seems so with DUMBO, THE LITTLE MERMAID, MULAN and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, to name a few.
The latest to be added to that list is Roald Dahl’s JAMES AND THE Giant Peach. Now the films already been made as the 90’s version from Tim Burton mixed animation with live action for a pretty fun film, but it isn’t enough and Disney want another remake.
Sam Mendes, who directed last years SPECTRE, is in early talks to direct the planned film from Disney. It’s being thrown in there with Disney’s long list of live action film, plus those animated areas of the original JAMES AND THE GIANT Peach will be getting the chop it seems as the new one will be fully live action orientated.
The film sees young James dreaming of a far away land after he lives with his dreadful aunts. In true mystical fashion a mystery man gives James some crystals that’ll cast out his unhappy life, until James accidentally drops them on his aunts’ peach tree, creating one giant peach. Inside he befriends Grasshopper, Earthworm, Miss Spider, and Centipede and the new found friends go on an adventure, floating away in the peach.
