As soon as Fear THE Walking DEAD was announced, everyones started wondering when the series will be set and where, but then sparked when we’ll see the two shows crossover. That discussion is still going on today, but it may not be happening anytime soon from the looks of it.
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD released it’s first season this time last year, and although slow start similar to THE WALKING DEAD’s first season, it is starting to find it’s feet. The show started with the undead coming back alive, rather then the original show which focused on Rick Grimes waking in a hospital bed months later the world was torn apart. We’ve slowly seen FEAR THE WALKING DEAD’s world collapse as the survivors struggle to, well, survive.
With the two shows having drastic time differences, it’s difficult to say we’d see a crossover and producer of the shows Dave Erckson has gone to say it won’t be happening at the moment:
“As of right now, no, there is no plan,” Erickson says. “From a narrative perspective, nevermind the geography of it all, I think it would be too difficult to pull off. I don’t think there’s anything, as far as I’ve read in the comic, I don’t think there’s any trackway for that either. It’s such a complicated proposition and I think for the time being, the two shows just need to exist in their own spheres.”
With all that being said, we could see it happen one day. Like I said though, the two shows times are drastically different so the only way would be to have characters from FTWD appear in the prime show TWD, but even then it’d push the writers of FTWD into a corner as they’d be forced to keep the characters showing in TWD alive to keep the story correct.
We’ll just have to see how the two shows go and if FTWD gets closer to when TWD is set, maybe something will happen.
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD returns August 21.
