Naruto closely follows the life of a boy who is feared and detested by the villagers of the hidden leaf village of Konoha. The distrust of the boy has little to do with the boy himself, but it's what's inside him that causes anxiety. Long before Naruto came to be, a Kyuubi (demon fox) with great fury and power waged war taking many lives. The battle ensued for a long time until a man known as the Fourth Hokage, Yondaime, the strongest ninja in Konoha, fiercely fought the Kyuubi. The fight was soon won by Yondaime as he sealed the evil demon in a human body. Thus the boy, Naruto, was born. As Naruto grows he decides to become the strongest ninja in Konoha in an effort to show everyone that he is not as they perceive him to be, but is a human being worthy of love and admiration. But the road to becoming Hokage, the title for the strongest ninja in Konoha, is a long and arduous one. It is a path filled with betrayal, pain, and loss; but with hard work, Naruto may achieve Hokage.

Invasion of Konoha: Episodes 68—80, Chapters 115—138:

The new Team Kakashi follows up on some information received from Sasori about a meeting with a spy among Orochimaru's followers. The meeting fails when the spy, Kabuto Yakushi, turns out to still be loyal to Orochimaru. Later, Team Kakashi invades Orochimaru's base in pursuit of Sai, who had betrayed the team on the orders of his Root superior, Danzo. Naruto and Sakura finally meet Sasuke for the first time since his defection from Konoha roughly 2½ years earlier. Sasuke, however, is far from what he used to be.

Hidan and Kakuzu: Chapters 311—342:
After returning from the Land of Grass, Kakashi and Yamato begin training Naruto so he can create his own jutsu. Meanwhile, Akatsuki begins getting more active, capturing two tailed beasts at once. When two Akatsuki members, Hidan and Kakuzu, make their way into the Land of Fire, Tsunade mobilizes 80 of Konoha's ninja to deal with the threat. However, when Asuma Sarutobi is killed by Hidan in battle, Team 10 teams up with Kakashi to confront the two powerful ninja on their own.

Current: Chapters 343—Present:
Sasuke betrays and defeats Orochimaru, then forms a new group, called Snake, comprised of Orochimaru's former subordinates in order to find and kill Itachi. Tsunade hears of this and assembles an 8-man team consisting of Team Kakashi and Team 8 to capture Itachi and intercept Sasuke. Sasuke gets attacked by Deidara and Tobi of Akatsuki. In the resulting battle Deidara is killed. Naruto and his team arrive at the scene where the battle took place, but Sasuke was already gone. Kabuto appears before Naruto and reveals that he has taken Orochimaru's body into his own. After Sasuke and Itachi meet, the two make plans to have their final battle. Meanwhile, the leaders of Akatsuki make plans to capture Naruto, while Jiraiya sneaks into Amegakure to gather information on the Akatsuki leader. It is revealed that Tobi has the Sharingan. Jiraiya summons a scroll with a frog attached to it and it seems that it is the key to accessing the nine-tailed foxes powers at their fullest. Jiraiya says he believes that the Nine-tailed fox was a summoning. The Toad scroll says that no one has that much power, but Jiraiya says that Uchiha Madara does. The scene then flashes to Tobi standing at the valley where Naruto and Sasuke fought 3 years ago, where a statue of Uchiha Madara stands. Jiraiya tells the toad to go to Naruto in the event of his death. Jiraiya then encounters Pein, the leader of Akatsuki, who is an old student of Jiraiya. His female partner, Konan, was also a student of Jiraiya at the same time as Pein, along with a third who is no where to be found. Pein is able to use the third eye kekkei Genkai of Konoha, the Rin'negan. He reveals that his goal is to collect the Tailed beasts to create a Jutsu powerful enough to destroy a country in a blink of an eye. At the beginning he has 2 partners who also have the same kekkei genkai. Jiraiya has a flashback to the prediction the toad sage gave him, which stated, "You will train a student who will be the destined child. He will bring great change and either save or destroy the world." Jiraiya believed that this was Pein. After Jiraiya enters Toad Sage form he defeats the 3. However, they return with 3 others all with the Rin'egan. Jiraiya's arm has been blown off in the attack by the 6 Peins, so he goes in to hiding and uses the barrier technique to kill one of the Peins. One of the toads takes the body back to Tsunade. Jiraya then goes to fight the 5 other Peins and figures out Pein's secret right before Pein strikes him down. Before he dies he gives the 2nd toad the secret through code and he figures out that Naruto is the destined child, not Pein. Meanwile Team Kakashi and Team 8 find and begin to fight Tobi while at the same moment Sasuke and Itachi's fight begins. After a short fight Itachi tells Sasuke the secret of Madara and his Mangekyo Sharingan. In turn tells asuke why he didn't kill him with the other Uchiha.
