This book was just what the doctor ordered for DC Comics. After the New 52 they have been struggling in creating compelling material and on the sales charts especially in comparison to Marvel. The New 52 completely rebooted the entire DC Universe erasing 80 years of continuity. Rebirth was designed to weave all that back into todays continuity and bring back the substance and some of the characters that people always loved in this universe.

When Rebirth was announced a lot of people wrote it off as another money grab or typical summer crossover but it is so much more than that. This book gives new readers a great jumping on point while at the same time bringing back history to bring in some of the people who left when New 52 launched. This was sorely needed and if the majority of books are anywhere near as good as this, we are in for a fantastic new universe and some interesting and unique stories.

The Original Wally West has had a Rebirth

The basic story of Rebirth is that pre-New 52 Wally West has been stuck in the speed force and is trying to reconnect with someone to bring him back out. He understands that something has happened that has caused the universe to change and its not Flashpoint. Wally goest to Batman, Linda Park and other characters in which he had a connection with in the past but none of them remembered him. Each time he tries to connect he gets closer and closer to being stuck in the speed force forever. Finally his last ditch effort was to reach out to Barry Allen who does remember him and brings Wally out of the speed force and back into reality.

These characters still do not know entirely what caused this change and lost of memories or stolen time as Wally refers to it, however at the end of the book Batman finds The Comedian’s pen which leads us to believe Dr. Manhattan is responsible for this. We know how powerful Dr. Manhatten is, but he is not an evil character so it will be interesting to find out what his motive what to causing this and how our heroes fix the universe.

We also got introduced and re-introduced into some past and new characters that will be featured in the new line of Rebirth titles. We see Dick Grayson putting on his Nightwing Suit, Damien Wayne leading the Teen Titans, A New Aqualad, the fact that their is 3 Jokers and two Blue Beetles and two Atoms.

If you loved DC Comics before the New 52 then Rebirth was for you and will bring you back. If you fell in love with the New 52 I think you will still enjoy these stories and your stories will not be erased and will still be in cannon. This was just a start and will only be as good as its follow up, but as far as a kickoff of a major event goes… this is top notch.
