If you follow the British Royal Family at all, then you're probably familiar with the rumors of a feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

There's considerable disagreement among royal "sources" as to what caused the feud, but everyone seems to agree that the duchesses are not exactly BFFs.

Some say Kate and Meghan started fighting over a dress -- specifically, the dress that Princess Charlotte wore to Meg's wedding -- and things just escalated from there.

Others insist that Prince William had his doubts about Meghan when Harry first started dating her.

According to that version of events, Kate got involved and tried to play peacemaker, but wound up making things worse and royally pissing Meghan off in the process.

Whatever the case, Meg and Kate are reportedly still at odds.

In fact, prior to this week, they hadn't appeared in public together for several months.

That changed on Wednesday when the Dueling Duchesses appeared at an event honoring Prince Charles.

"Today The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by The Queen @TheRoyalFamily to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Investiture of The Prince of Wales," reads a caption to the photo set on Kensington Palace's Instagram page.

Throwing someone a party for half a century of being almost king is shady enough as it is.

(Here's hoping the Queen used the occasion to announce that she's been outfitted with a new baboon heart and is planning to reign for another 50.)

But adding to the sketchiness of the whole affair is that Kate and Meg basically had no choice but to attend -- and the pic above is the closest they came to being photographed together.

Obviously, they're not out here staring daggers at one another, but the photos from the event are enough to make a true believer out of anyone who doubts the reports of a feud.

Kate and Meghan are obviously very aware of what's being said about them.

The situation is so severe that Kensington Palace issued a statement about the feud.

All these two had to do to run some counterprogramming is pose for a quick pic in which they appear to be enjoying each other's company.

But they couldn't even do that.

It's enough to make you wonder if the bad blood is even worse than we realized.

Of course, it's possible that these two were never asked to pose together during the event.

But we find it hard to believe they would pass up such an easy opportunity to clear the air.
