Meghan McCain stood strong and bravely in front of hundreds of mourners on Saturday morning in Washington D.C. and have a moving eulogy to her heroic father.
The View co-host was one of several speaks at the emotional event, which paid tribute to U.S. Senatior John McCain, the former prisoner of war and Presidential candidate who died last week at the age of 81.
He passed away from brain cancer.
While recognizing all her dad accomplished in her life and all he stood for, Meghan couldn't help but contrast her father with the man who currently resides in the White House.
No, she did not mention President Trump by name.
But you can decide whether certain passages of her eulogy were written with him in mind.
“The America of John McCain is generous and welcoming and bold,” she said.
“She is resourceful and confident and secure. She meets her responsibilities, She speaks quietly because she is strong. America does not boast because she has no need to.
The America of John McCain has no need to be great again because America was always great.”
At this last sentence, the crowd erupted in applause.
But Meghan wasn't done, not after President Trump had shown such disrespect over the past few weeks by slamming her dad in stump speeches while he suffered from a fatal disease.
And not after he refused to fly the American Flag at the White House at half-staff all week long.
“We live in an era where we knock down old American heroes for all their imperfections. When no leader wants to admit to fault or failure,” Meghan said, addressing her dad as follows:
“You were an exception, and you gave us an ideal to strive for. Look, I know you can see this gathering here in this cathedral. The nation is here to remember you.”
President Obama also spoke at the funeral, which Trump did not attend, mentioning at one point how politicis today is full of people who are small, mean, petty and grounded in insult.
He talked about "phony controversy" and "manufacturing outrage."
We wonder about whom he was speaking.
