Y is for Youth – Soichi Umezawa
Strangely beautiful, meaningful, and emotional.
If you’ve seen this then you know that it’s fucking weird. That’s pretty obvious and undeniable. But that’s what makes it so good. The completely Fucked up images used reflect the fucked up situation, the girl’s frustration and pain, and the parent’s indifference to it.
A young girl trying to get the adults in her life to notice what they have done to her, the damage and negative impact that their own self involvement has had on her life. It’s a story that so many people can relate to, and it’s done very well. Such strong, important feeling expressed so concisely.
The mental images so twisted and warped by the mind of a neglected adolescent, it’s not hard to figure out why they are so bizarre, yet compelling. There’s no sugar coating, just blatant, visual displays of what they have done and a very literal interpretation of the consequences.
I appreciate this short, it definitely made me feel things, and that’s the point of art. Successful concept and execution. One of my favourites.
