‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Production Taking Just as Long As Previous Years Despite Fewer Episodes – Iain Glen Hails ‘Extraordinary Production

The next season of the Emmy-award winning drama will only have seven episodes, as opposed to the usual 10 and is seems as if extra time is being put to good use for the upcoming episodes.

Show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explained that it will simply be too difficult to carry the series out for 10 episodes, mainly as the production level that goes in to episodes is just too labour intensive, but promised some incredible moments for the upcoming season and that the spare time will never be wasted.

Actor Iain Glen, who portrays fan-favorite Jorah Mormont on the fantasy show said  “They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot 10 episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year,” he said. “There are 15 more hours left in Thrones as we understand it, but that may change, but that’s as far as we know. I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it’s just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to 10.”

There has already been talk of the episode length on season 8 being shorter, with only six episodes. As this is likely, don’t believe it just yet as HBO has issued no statements on the eighth season yet. We will be sure to update you when news does come around.
