Fantasy author Joe Abercrombie has released an update on the current status of his new trilogy set within his immensely popular series The First Law.

In his most recent blog post, Abercrombie gave us the name of the first novel in the upcoming trilogy, which he’s named A Little Hatred. In the progress report he confirmed that the release of the first book is on track and should be releasing late summer 2019. In his blog post, he said, “Publication of Book 1, A Little Hatred, still looks good for late summer ’19. But I, of course, make no promises…”
In a previous report, Abercrombie confirmed that there was one character in his new books that had an italicised internal voice. This is a style that gave us favorite characters in his previous works, with characters such as Sand Dan Glokta and Bremer Dan Gorst having italicised voice written for them. He said that he decided to remove this element because it wasn’t working out.
He also kindly caught all readers up in his latest progress report, giving a brief overview of the layout of the next three books, and seemed happy to say that he’s currently working on the final part, which he emphasized in capitals.
“You can get more details of my current project in earlier progress reports, if you are among the pitiful damned who do not hang upon my every post.” he said. Essentially I’m writing a new trilogy in the First Law world, but writing it all in one go before I revise and refine each book for publication. Each one of these three books is in three parts, and I am currently writing the NINTH AND FINAL PART. Indeed I’m about 20,000 words into it, so some 40,000 words to go until a super-rough draft of the entire thing is FINISHED and I can begin the lengthy process of taking stock of where the whole thing is and polishing this unwieldy mass into a diamond.”

The new trilogy will mark the eighth, ninth and tenth books Joe Abercrombie has created within his award-winning First Law world. The previous novels are: The Blade Itself, Before they are Hanged, Last Argument of Kings, Best Served Cold, The Heroes, Red Country, Sharp Ends. Obviously we know that the next one is called A Little Hatred but we aren’t currently aware of the names of the other two.
In other fantasy book news, A Song of Ice and Fire creator George RR Martin has announced the release date of his latest project Fire and Blood, a hardback telling the brutal backstories of the Targaryen Dynasty. This novel is set for release November 20th.
