‘Kingkiller Chronicle’ Writer Patrick Rothfuss is Making a Rick & Morty D&D Comic

Fantasy writer Patrick Rothfuss, known for the global success of his Kingkiller Chronicle series is writing a Rick and Morty comic, where they will save the universe through a game of the classic Dungeons and Dragons.

The Kingkiller Chronicle is widely regarded as one of the greatest epic fantasy series of the last decade and has just released an absolutely stunning 10th anniversary edition of The Name of the Wind, you can buy it here or if you have not already read it you can buy the cheaper original edition here.

Rothfuss announced his secret project via a blog post he recently wrote, saying ‘there’s an official Rick and Morty Dungeons & Dragons crossover comic happening. And I’m writing it.’ The writer has seemingly got this four-part comic completed fairly quickly, considering the criticism he’s come under in recent years over the gigantic wait for this to complete the third novel in his Kingkiller Chronicle series. This comic is split into four issues and is set to release in stores this August.

The Rick and Morty D&D crossover begins when Morty wants to learn how to play the classic game when it becomes a big deal at his school. Rick decides that the only way for Morty to become the best player is to live it. Rick then transports himself, Morty and the entire family into the game.

On his recent blog post, Patrick Rothfuss said, “I get invitations to be involved with a lot of projects these days, and I say no to the majority of them. It’s my job to say no to things these days so I can focus my energies on essential things, and as a result, I’ve passed on some really cool gigs over the last couple years.” He said, and expressed his happiness for this project, and his willingness to do it. “But when this got offered to me, I really couldn’t say no.”

Also, in a public statement on the news, Rothfuss conveyed his excitement for the comic. “That’s some serious you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut butter $#!& right there. I’m in. I’m all the way in. I’m gettin’ that chocolate all up in the peanut butter. Like, deep in. All the way in. It’s going to be sticky and delicious.”

Rothfuss’ The Kingkiller Chronicle has also been picked up by both Lionsgate and Showtime for a TV series and a possible trilogy of movies. The networks are putting a lot in to this adaptation, hiring Lin-Manuel Miranda for the role of Executive Producer and also getting Sam Raimi to direct. Lionsgate & Showtime with The Kingkiller Chronicle are not the only networks looking to fill the huge fantasy gap when Game of Thrones sadly leaves us in 2019, with Netflix having a TV series of The Witcher in development. Amazon are bringing Lord of the Rings back in the form of a TV series as well as another adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. It’s certain that in the coming years there will be no shortage of quality fantasy!
