Netflix’s The Witcher TV Series: Latest News & Updates

The hit epic-fantasy video game series and short story series by Andrzej Sapkowski will be coming to our screens in the form of a Netflix Original TV series.

Aside from the book Series, The Witcher is best known for its video game series of the same name which released 3 titles: The WitcherWitcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Netflix will attempt to make The Witcher the main show to fill the gap after Game Of Thrones concludes in 2019. GoT has caused many production companies to develop a new fantasy show in an attempt to get as much success. We’ve seen this so far with Amazon creating a ‘Lord of the Rings‘ show and Lionsgate beginning development of ‘The Kingkiller Chronicle‘ by Patrick Rothfuss.

Producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown spoke of the huge potential of the adaptation in a  press release:

“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

Some fans are delighted to get a TV series, while some are worried it could be treated like other novel and video game adaptations over the years. One adaptation quickly jumps to mind of course, the Assassins Creed movie.

Answering fans worries, one of the writers of Netflix’s upcoming fantasy drama, Lauren S. Hissrich re-assured fans that there will be no watering down of the original source material and gave us her word, implying that the drama will be true to the world it’s set in.

When the show was first spoke of back in early 2017, writer and creator of ‘The Witcher’, Andrzej Sapkowski, spoke of his excitement for the upcoming TV series on Netflix, he said:

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Development for the series is now underway, with Lauren S. Hissrich sending out another Tweet teasing to fans. She said ‘Time to break this pilot!’. See the Tweet for yourself below:

As full production has yet to begin and he have no solid details on the show, like who will be in the cast and how many episode there will be, it’s very hard to call a release date. You should expect it to release late 2019 or early 2020.
