Music Review: Charlie Puth "Attention"

Disclaimer: This is a review of Charlie Puth's AttentionEverything down below are my personal opinions. I'm in no way affiliated with any corporation, especially Charlie Puth, or Atlantic records.

This is a fantastic record. I'll go as far as saying this is my jam. I've criticized Puth in the past for his vocals, but this Song has all the ingredients to turn it into a successful summer bop. While his vocals may lack in some songs, Puth has always been a master when it comes to music production and this song is no exception. From simple guitar underneath his voice in the beginning to the slow build up to the chorus with that bass-line until the song just goes full funk. It's glorious from beginning to end. The song is essential about a childish lover, seeking "attention" instead of an actual relationship with Puth proclaiming they just "hate the thought of [him] with someone new." Although the song is upbeat in nature, you can hear his connection to the lyrics -- especially in the bridge (that sigh at the end is iconic).

Puth posted a caption on his Instagram, stating something along the lines of "this is the music I really want to make." I didn't think anything of it until "Attention" actually came out. If this is what he's got and ready to deliver to us, I'm here for it! It's the perfect follow-up single to my previous favorite song of his, "We Don't Talk Anymore". Not only is this my favorite song by him that gets me very excited for this new era of music from him, it's one of my favorite songs of the year.

SONG GRADE: A
