The Haves and the Have Nots: Waiting for Candace (5x02)

Disclaimer: Spoilers for the season premiere of Tyler Perry and OWN's The Haves and the Have Nots after the jump! If you haven't seen it, do not click any further (until you've seen it, then definitely read)! Thank you to the Oprah Winfrey Network for the pictures!

Kathryn is still chasing Veronica through the house, yelling at her with black eyes, smoke coming out of her ears and fire steam rolling out of her mouth. It was...something. I personally thought it was a bit TOO over the top, in the sense that it all felt a little rushed like it was trying to be a cold open and wrap up super quick. As a longtime fan, I've been waiting to see Kathryn finally handle Veronica and drag her for everything she is worth. I may complain that the show's pace has become a little slower since last season, but this is the one "scene" I would have liked to see take some time to develop. Kathryn just sitting around drinking tea and staring at Veronica would have been fine again this week, but instead we got a rushed fight sequence that ended with Kathryn falling down the stairs. Eh. It was fun while it lasted!

Wyatt's an absolute prick and I don't know what they're doing with him. He tries to leave the hospital room (I don't know about you, if I was in a coma I probably wouldn't be able to jump out of the bed like a spring chicken like Wyatt was able to). He tells Jeffrey that his being gay is disgusting and that he doesn't know why Jeffrey loves him because he's so unlovable and then tries to get him to take him to his new apartment. Wyatt's just the worst. There's just so much going on in that boy's head, man.  Best case scenario, he's gay and he's just an asshole because he wants to get dicked down by Jeffrey. Worst case scenario, he continues to be an absolute douche bag and the excuse is that Jim is his father. I just want him to sit down, say thank you and go to sleep.

Candace calls Jeffrey and makes sure that he remembers that killing Quincy was a two person job, not her fault. I don't know about y'all, but Candace hanging up on Jeffrey's ass then calling him right back because she claimed she thought they had a bad connection after he alluded to the stabbing being all her fault I gagged laughing. Candace ends up playing coy and storms up to the police officer and demands that they get out. He has a warrant and tells her to step to the other side of the street (with Quita lmao). Justin gets a call from Jeffrey asking if Candace is there, he goes out and instead of being simple and accepting the help (after she dead ass told Jeffrey he's the only person they can trust) she threatens to expose him being gay if they find Quincy's body back there. Candace just likes it when things are more difficult for her, it seems.

Is anyone else getting sick of Hanna trying to talk some sense into Benny about Candace? She's mortgaged his old his, his new house and his towing company and still has faith in her. I almost busted out laughing when he said he was finally beginning to lose faith with her. Somebody stole my faith in Candace from the lost & found back around the first half of last season. Hanna's tired of giving him a sermon every week, and I'm honestly tired of hearing them, so she just shuts up and goes upstairs to pack. Back over at the tow yard, Ken Bone essentially comes to the tow yard to shut it down and I guess take everything on the property (?). Mitch says fuck that, backs his truck into Ken's car and drives off flashing him the peace sign. David, Erica, Jim, Brandon and War are also characters on the show. :)

Kathryn wakes up after Veronica slices her upper arm and kicks her down the stairs and comes back at her with the knife when David shows up. Veronica RUNS into his arms, and I'm assuming (more like hoping) that Kathryn plays the victim and gets David on her side. Seems like it won't take much convincing!

EPISODE GRADE: C+
Stray notes:
-Like I said, a lot of this episode (Kathryn being kicked down the stairs, Wyatt's shrud asshole-ness, everything about Candace) was a bit too over the top just for the sake of being over the top. Believe me, I like over the top stuff when it's organic but a lot off this is beginning to feel forced and even more unbelievable than usual.
-In regards to David/Erica, I could not care less.
-In regards to Jim & War, I'm excited for Jim to get out and spring out one liners or mock people. War can just get killed off.
-Kenneth Bone for those of you who didn't get the reference.
-Jeffrey said he'd leave in a heart beat if Wyatt disrespected him but stayed for dessert...
-David: Did you enjoy the date? Me: I didn't enjoy the date, I don't enjoy this storyline, and I don't enjoy how his voice sounds like he just woke up from a four month coma.
-Tyler Perry is desperately trying to find relevance for Mitch, Erica, Brandon and Justin and it's all just not working for me. Stick with what works.
-Did...did Justin call Jeffrey "hun" when he hung up the phone or was that just me?
-Please tell me you guys saw Quita shaking in the background like a crack head when Candace was talking to the cop. I was screaming!!!
-I would watch an entire season of Candace just dragging Quita for being a crack head.
