Mythica: A Quest for Heroes

“Mythica: A Quest for Heroes” was the first film in the series, released in December 2014. Part of its funding came from a successful Kickstarter campaign that collected $94,294.

Melanie Stone, who plays Marek--an escaped slave girl and daring young wizard--and Kevin Sorbo, who acts as Gojun Pye (the magician that trains her), stand out amongst the cast. They are accompanied by Adam Johnson, Jake Stormoen, and Nicola Posener, playing companions that team up with Marek on various adventures throughout the film.

The first film’s story starts when Marek, the magician in training and slave girl, yearns for more than her dull life allows. She aspires to have adventures like those she’s read about and sees Gojun Pye, a sorcerer, as the one who can teach her what she needs to know.

After meeting Teela, a priestess seeking help in Hammerhead’s tavern, Marek offers assistance and runs away from her owner. While beginning to use her magic abilities (and using a brace for an injured leg), Marek assembles the following group:

Teela, Thane, and Dagen (half-elf thief and womanizer) quest to find Teela’s sister. She has a stone that was taken from Teela’s people’s temple. The ogre Sung Hill and some orcs want the rock for their sorcerer boss.

The movie is full of action and adventure as this group races to thwart the evil sorcerer’s plans.

Mythica: The Darkspore

“The Darkspore” is the second part of the Mythica series, directed by Anne K. Black, and stars Kevin Sorbo and Melanie Stone in the lead role.

The story of this part starts right where the first installment ended. Kishkumen, a mysterious dark elf warrior with yellow eyes, killed Teela’s sister when she was carrying the mysterious stone as he wanted to give it to his master Szorlok.

Meanwhile, a sorcerer, Gojun Pye (Kevin Sorbo), tells Marek about the stone. The Darkspore is a shard that can provide tremendous strength to whoever possesses it. It once belonged to the Lich King but was found and broken into pieces by Szorlok and his followers years ago while they walked through creature-infested lands. Gojun Pye stopped Szorlok, a foreign mystic bent from using the bit to get power, and after that ordeal, the sorcerers hid the four shards in various parts of the planet.

Marek and her company travel to the ruined city to avert Szorlok, an evil necromancer, from obtaining all of the bits of the Darkspore. If they fail, all will be lost; this is where the action starts. The team must fight against hordes of monsters and powerful magic to stop Szorlok.

The movie shows the adventures that Marek and her companions experience as they try to foil Szorlok’s plans to possess the Darkspore. It also offers a more refined look at the characters and their relationships.

The movie’s overall acting, theme, and actions make it a delightful watch.

Mythica: The Necromancer

The third installment in the Mythica series was released six months after the last part. A. Todd Smith took the movie’s direction while the lead character remained the same.

The Necromancer continues to follow Marek and her team of would-be heroes as they learn more advanced magic. They receive training from Gojun Pye and eventually receive staff from him.

However, He tells her to use caution with her necromancer abilities--safely taking the life force from another person is a difficult feat to reverse.

He describes his former group of sorcerers, including their enemy Szorlok. The group was called The Red Thorns, and they were mighty. Their abilities made them the envy of the kingdom, and Szorlok wanted to tap into that force to stop intruding vitalian soldiers by becoming the Lich King.

Though the film’s plot is easy to follow, the fantasy element of the story grows more and more complex as it progresses, and as we move to the mid-way of the series, it becomes more and more thrilling.

If you have watched the first two parts, you should also watch this one. The movie’s overall action and adventure build up the story in a way that makes it an exciting watch for everyone.

Mythica: The Iron Crown

This part of the series was directed by John Lyde, with Kevin Sorbo and Melanie Stone in the lead role.

In the fourth part, “The Iron Crown.” Marek, Dagen, and Thane can now get all the pieces of the dark spore. However, they followed a trio of warriors on a death race dispatched to collect the dark spore. Another group of unlikely heroes is also after them in a desperate quest to return the cursed relic to the gods for safekeeping.

The dwarves are willing to trade the dark spore for Szorlok in exchange for the Iron Crown, which would give him back his title as King of the Dwarves.

The gang tries to get the dark spore to the Temple of Owls throughout this to neutralize it. Thane becomes inevitable that Teela’s ghost possesses Marek in the middle of all of this.

Marek’s goals remain the same--to free the final Darkspore from Szorlok. In doing so, she fights against numerous foes before finally achieving her goal. Once completed, Marek can choose which path she wants to take next.

The non-stop action and plot twists will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. It’s fascinating to see how the fantasy world is expanded upon, and it nicely sets up for the next movie in the series.

Mythica: The Godslayer

The fifth and final part of the Mythica series came out in November 2016, with John Lyde as director and Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin as the film’s writers.

The story of this part starts when Marek, a junior sorcerer suffering from a curse, sets out on an adventure with her only friend Dagen--an untrustworthy half-elf rogue. Their goal is to find and retrieve a weapon blessed by the gods to kill better the World Father’s zombie legions that have been terrorizing their homeland.

Joining forces with her sworn enemy is the only chance she can save the world in a desperate attempt, but first, she must overcome the darkness within herself. If she fails, her friends will die, and the Lich King’s zombie legions will enslave humanity forever.

This is where the audience will find out if Marek succeeds in her mission or fails. The movie provides thrilling action sequences and massive plot twists that are sure to entertain viewers. It is the perfect ending to this incredible series. Both fans of fantasy movies, as well as those who have watched all parts before, will find something enjoyable here.

The cast for the final installment of the Mythica franchise includes Melanie Stone as Marek, Jake Stormoen as Dagen, Adam Johnson as Thane, Nicola Posener as Teela, Kevin Sorbo as Gojun Pye, and Matthew Merceras Szorlok.

So there you have all the Mythica movies; whether you are a fan of fantasy movies or an avid follower of the series, each installment is sure to thrill and excite viewers worldwide. Enjoy this journey with Marek as she fights against all odds to save her people from the wrath of Szorlok and ultimately find freedom for them all.
