'Twin Peaks' Season 3 Finale Recap: Does the Group Find Judy?

Hallelujah! While legions of David Lynch fans are probably equal parts devastated and excited that "The Return, Part 17" and "The Return, Part 18" are finally airing, I am elated that the whole thing is almost over. If anyone is reading this, I don't know who you are or why you stuck it out. Anyone who isn't obsessed -- because being familiar isn't enough -- with Lynch enough to be awestruck by this long- awaited disaster either never watched the show or gave up after the first few episodes aired and, therefore, would have no reason to read a recap.

I missed the Twin Peaks phenomenon the first time around, and while I can appreciate that Lynch is an artist and has done some groundbreaking work that just doesn't happen to be my taste -- I'm not much for surrealism -- he certainly didn't win me over with season 3, and I don't think that was his purpose. The third installment of Twin Peaks, in my humble opinion, is self-indulgent. Lynch was disillusioned with how network TV bastardized his series and, after being given free rein from Showtime, decided to give a giant finger to anyone who doesn't have the mindset, intellect or patience to embrace and understand his vision. And if you are one of the people who swallows everything Lynch dishes out no matter how bad it is and asks for more, you're not interested in what I have to say.
