Bernard Lee, who played M in eleven James Bond films starting with Dr No, was born on 10th January 1908, although it is uncertain as to whether he was born in County Cork in Irelend, or in London.
Acting on both stage and screen prior to the war, Lee managed to work on a number of films while serving with the Royal Sussex Regiment and following his demob returned both develop both his stage and screen careers.
The role for which he is best remembered is the head of the British Secret Service, M, starting with Dr No and appearing in ten subsequent films ending with Moonraker.
