Fast & Furious 8 Mini Review

“I will beat you like a Cherokee drum.”

Directed by: F. Gary Gray

Starring: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron

Synopsis: Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has gone rogue. Manipulated by Charlize Theron’s cyberterrorist Cipher, Loretto hatches a plan to bring down her empire; even if it means turning his back on the one thing that means the most to him: family.

Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw and Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs.

Sit back. Relax. Switch off. Dominic Toretto’s Corona swigging, city destroying, car enthusiast family have got another wonderfully sadistic villain to knock off, and they ain’t going to do it quietly. If you’ve seen a Fast and Furious film, you’ll know exactly what to expect by now:

  • Vest tops
  • Muscles
  • Muscle cars
  • Muscly men ogling at muscle cars
  • Muscly men ogling at guns
  • Muscly men ogling at bums
  • Explosions
  • Even bigger explosions
  • All of the quips

And this time, you can expect it all to be cranked up to eleven. The plot (such that it is), is absolute nonsense, the stunts hit new levels of ridiculousness – which, considering what’s come before for the franchise, is saying something – but you know what…it’s a lot of fun. It’s really, really ridiculous, but fun nonetheless. Theron’s antagonist is a treat, the car chases are fresh and creative, and the show-stealing duo of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham pepper the screen with genuinely witty one-liners and action sequences, typifying why the series remains so popular.

Just try not to think too much. In fact, it’s best not to think at all. If you can manage that, then you’re sure to have a good time.
