Although one can find Shah Rukh Khan away from the silver screen, he has been busy in his other ventures. These include bringing in a few web series for the OTT platform along with movies as well for the same. As per the recent buzz, the actor is planning to make a series based on bonded labour and migration. He may not face the camera but his production company Red Chillies will be backing a project dealing with the issues of labourers from Eastern UP and Western Bihar who were engaged in sugar plantation in the West Indies in the earlier century.

As per reports, the project is titled as Jahaazi since these workers were known as Jahaazis or Girmitiyas as they travelled to the Caribbean islands in large numbers with 3-4 years job contract. As per reports, we have these people who went to the West Indies with the first two vessels at Guyana, better called as the British Guyana. This community is called the Indo-Caribbeans, who have been based in the West Indies along with places like Trinidad and Tobago.

SRK has now asked the Chak De fame director Shimit Amin to direct the film. Sources close to the venture claim that since SRK has been Trinbago Knight Riders’ owner, which could be the reason why the idea of making this film has come up. Some of the known Indo-Caribbeans include the Nobel Laureate VS Naipaul, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, cricketers Alvin Kalicharan, and Sunil Narine to name a few. Interestingly, SRK has been approached for the flamboyant cricketer Kalicharan’s biopic. SRK is planning to make it as a web series and not a film since he is already being engaged in a Punjab-Canada migration film by Rajkumar Hirani.
