John Abraham’s ‘Batla House’ May Face Delayed Release

John Abraham’s upcoming film, Batla House was all set to release on the coming Independence Day on 15 August, clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal. However, as per new reports, certain legal complications may delay its release.

Batla House is based on the true incidents that surrounded the Batla House Encounter case of 2008, involving the alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists. John plays as the IPS Sanjeev Kumar who lead the team that carried out the encounter.

On 3 August, two of the surviving accused in the Batla House encounter case, Ariz Khan and Shehzad Ahmad, moved to the Delhi High Court looking forward for a stay on the release.
This plea is likely to come up for hearing next week. The petition also seeks the Centre to conduct a screening of the film prior to its release on 15 August.

The plea mentions the use of promotional material for the film, and suggests that the sequence of events depicted in the film is true and will influence the trial of the case.

“Although the courts discharge their duties in a free and fair manner and are not likely to be affected by events portrayed in a movie…the release of such a movie would prejudice the outcome of the trial. The events portrayed in the film will prejudice the trial especially as there has been an effort to connect the two incidents i.e. Batla House and the Delhi serial blasts,” mentions the plea.

Batla House is directed by Nikkhil Advani and also stars Mrunal Thakur.
