“Jesus Christ. By the time we find a suitable parking spot, the booze will be gone and everybody will be asleep” I said to my friend as we navigated the poorly designed lot. The architect deserves to be shot.
Feeling disheveled, we meet our friend inside for his son’s bachelor….get together? Party? Let’s not label things. The smell of lightly scented oxygen being pumped into the casino floor is lovely. The euphoria kicks in. We walk up to the hotel room to partake in booze and other party favors. No ice in my cup, thanks. I drink gin straight from the bottle at home.
We head back down, cups in hands. No point in spending ten dollars on a well cocktail when you walk freely and sip until you’ve reduced yourself to a primitive animal.
I wouldn’t be caught dead gambling, but there is no other joy in the world quite like watching people at a casino. Every group here has a different agenda. There’s the casual rendezvous, young male testosterone filled predatory groups, females overdressed to fall victim to those groups, and of course the serious gambling crowd. The juxtaposition in clothing is what sticks out. You can tell who’s here to party and who’s just getting off work needing their routine blackjack fix.
In conclusion: I love it here. This place takes small samples of different types of people from all over the city and throws them in one room. I get to stand by, silently documenting and slipping into the fringe while I sip on my fountain of youth. Talking Stick is a little slice of Vegas on the eastern edge of our beautiful city. Ok. I have to go hunt that architect down. Let’s talk soon.
