TEASER TRAILER FOR OBI-WAN KENOBI RELEASED!

The long-awaited teaser trailer for the forthcoming Disney Plus Obi-Wan Kenobi series hit Wednesday afternoon Eastern time, and my was it ever worth the wait.

Check out the 106-second Trailer here.

The trailer was released a few hours after Entertainment Weekly teased out the cover of its final print issue, featuring Ewan McGregor dressed as Obi-Wan. Wednesday, March 9 will certainly go down as a day long remembered.

The Teaser focuses mainly on the Inquisitors, Force-sensitive Jedi hunters commissioned by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to eliminate any Jedi that may have survived Order 66. Inquisitors are featured prominently in Star Wars: Rebels (2014-18) along with the 2017-18 run of Darth Vader Marvel comics. Pictured below is the Grand Inquisitor. He will be a primary antagonist of the show, besides Vader.

The teaser begins and ends with close-ups of Ewan, reprising the role he last performed in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005). We see him watch Luke Skywalker from a rocky alcove not far from the Lars Homestead. Luke is seen in the trailer sporting goggles and pretending to podrace, perhaps not unlike young Anakin did in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999).

Entertainment Weekly sent out bits of information earlier in the day, confirming the show would visit a planet called Daiyu, which is compared to a Hong Kong type of place. I get definite Blade Runner vibes from the description as well as presumed shots of the planet in the teaser.

Owen Lars, played once again by Joel Edgerton, is featured in a shot on a Tatooine street, where an Inquisitor is grilling the locals about Obi-Wan's location.

The teaser features voice-overs, first by McGregor, and later by an unknown actor presumably playing an Inquisitor, talking about how Jedi must be hunted and they can't change who they are.

The video ends on the shot at the top of this post, with Obi-Wan looking nervous, but perhaps a little bit hopeful.

The teaser was met with online cries of happiness and joy. In my view, no Disney Plus project has been as anticipated as this one, dating back to the confirmation of its existence back in August 2019 by McGregor and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. The music in the trailer has received considerable praise, as it flowed from "Duel of the Fates" to "Battle of the Heroes" and concluding with the end of "It Can't Be." The music is somewhat of a remix of those three tracks, beautifully blended together.

Darth Vader's breathing can be heard in the final notes of "It Can't Be" in the teaser. Hayden Christensen will be returning as Vader in the series.

John Williams has written the title track for the upcoming show, as if this incredible show needed any more gravitas.

Obi-Wan Kenobi premiers on Disney Plus Wednesday, May 25, exactly 44 years to the day from when we first met him in Star Wars: A New Hope
