With all the major Hollywood studios launching their own streaming services in recent years, the race was on for original content to help bolster their existing catalogue of TV shows and movies from the past.
Like others in the competitive Streaming Wars, Disney+ wondered what properties it could remake, reboot or reinvent to tempt viewers old and new alike, and one such franchise was Disney Channel's highly popular High School Musical.
Inspired by the film series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is a mockumentary musical dramedy following the drama students and faculty advisers at East High School working on their first-ever production of High School Musical: The Musical.
Now the cast of Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders are back for a second season which promises a new school musical production, rivalry with another school, new students, long-distance romance and more besides.
