Tis the Season to Conceive

We are in full swing for the Holiday season. With Thanksgiving under our belt next up is getting out that Christmas tree, sending out those holiday cards, checking off our gift giving list and conceiving. Yup, you heard right, the holiday season is statistically the most Popular time to conceive.

Data journalist Matt Stiles compiled stats from the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics and the U.S Social Security Administration from the years 1994 and 2014. What Stiles concluded from his investigation is the most common American birthdays fall on September 9, 19 and 12. He also concluded that 9 out of the 10 most popular birthdays fall in the month of September.

So if mid-September is the most popular time to give birth in the United States and we count backward and do our math right that means the child was conceived during the holiday season. So why is that? More Americans take time off from their jobs and spend it at home with their loved ones between Thanksgiving and Christmas. While it’s notorious for being a bustling time that can be stressful for most a large part of Americans find it to be the perfect time to reconnect with their mate.

On the flip side, the holiday season isn’t a popular time to give birth. According to Stiles research Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day are the least popular days to welcome your newborn. That’s due to the likelihood that  OB-GYN’s aren’t going to schedule a C-section on the major holidays unless medically necessary of course.
