How To Take the Perfect Family Holiday Card

‘Tis the season for getting your Family together for that perfect Holiday shot for that holiday card. For mother’s out there this can be anything but fun. A lot of mamas put so much pressure on themselves and their kiddos to get that perfect holiday shot that will end up in your 100 plus closest friends mailbox’s. So how do you nail this year’s holiday pic and have some fun with it? Here are a few tips that can make this year’s family photo shoot a little more relaxed

Make Sure Your Timing is Spot On

As a mother, you know when your kids are at their best. If they aren’t a morning person don’t schedule your holiday shoot first thing in the morning on a Saturday. If they get hungry easily, bring snacks for them to munch on so when you arrive at your location they are well fueled and ready to vogue.

I’ve never been adult enough to create holiday cards, but now with two kids the guilt just doubled. I used SimplytoImpress.com for the first time this year. It took 4 lactation cookies, three bottles, two dog treats and the promise of a date night to get this pic. Thank god, ordering it only took minutes. I LOVE how they turned out! Theme

To make things flow easier pick out what all of your family members are going to wear ahead of time. Have everything laid out the night before so there isn’t any last minute freak out session of where is my sweater? Coordinating outfits can be a fun added touch to your holiday shoot and adding some props into the mix can help keep your kiddos preoccupied during the photo session.

Reward

Bribe your kiddos if you need to, don’t worry we won’t tell Santa. But seriously, tell your munchkins that if they behave and cooperate during the shoot they can get a treat afterward like that favorite ice cream flavor or candy. Also, keep ammunition on deck if your children start to have a meltdown in the middle of your shoot. Your kiddos favorite candy or stickers in your back pocket may come in handy.

Take a Deep Breath

Just remember that this is a fun activity for you and your family and to not take it too seriously. Let your kids let loose a bit during your shoot. And remember, like life, your holiday shoot is probably not going to go exactly as you planned. So take a cue from your little ones and have fun with them, usually, the best shots are the candid ones.
