India vs Australia: Key battles to watch out for

Sunday's clash against Australia is expected to be the toughest challenge for Team India during the round robin stage of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.

London, June 8:

Sunday's clash against Australia is expected to be the toughest challenge for Team India during the round robin stage of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.

Looking at the way both India and Australia have performed during their previous matches at the tournament, fans may witness several interesting battles between the key players of both teams.

1) Virat Kohli vs Mitchess Starc

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc was in superb form during Australia's previous match against the West Indies. He claimed several crucial wickets to return a five-wicket haul as Australia successfully defended a modest total.

Kohli, on the other hand, could only manage to score 18 runs during India's opening win against South Africa. However, the Indian captain is the world's top-ranked batsman in both One-Day Internationals (ODI) and Test cricket and is a key pillar of the team's batting line-up.

Kohli has an average in excess of 53 against Australia in the 50-over format and will aim to torment the defending champions once again.

2) Jasprit Bumrah vs David Warner

David Warner has been in superlative form since returning from a year-long ban for ball-tampering. The star opener can destroy any bowling attack when in form and the Indians will be wary of the threat he poses.

The Indians will be looking to their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah to claim early wickets, including that of Warner.

Warner was the top scorer during this year's Indian Premier League and posted an unbeaten 89 as Australia defeated Afghanistan in their campaign opener.

Getting Warner out early will be crucial for India otherwise he may put the match out of the reach of Virat Kohli and his men.

3) Yuzvendra Chahal vs Adam Zampa

Yuzvendra Chahal enjoyed a superb World Cup debut with figures of 4/51 during the match against South Africa.

While Chahal is one of the best leg-spinners in the world right now, the Australian's also have a talented wrist spinner in Adam Zampa.

Zampa, who made his ODI debut in 2016, has claimed 64 wickets in the format since then with 15 of those victims being Indian.

While Chahal has the ability to extract extra turn, Zampa relies more on variations including the googly and the straight ball.

Will be an interesting battle to watch.
