Bethenny Frankel is opening up about her recent reunion with longtime nemesis Jill Zarin, and downplaying reports that they have rekindled their friendship. In a shocker, she also shuts down rumors that Jill might be returning to The Real Housewives of New York City, saying her return wouldn’t work for the show due to the current dynamics.
After the two women had a major falling out during the third season of RHONY, they called it quits on their friendship and remained estranged for years. Then, after Zarin tragically lost her husband Bobby Zarin following a years-long battle with cancer, they reunited in the Big Apple during Bobby’s funeral service.
“To be honest I thought I was going to pay my respects and leave, and I ended up lingering and staying and having emotions,” Frankel explained to People magazine on February 1. “I really did know Bobby. And I did sort of remember all of these quotes that he had said.”
According to Frankel, Bobby had been encouraging Jill to make amends with her for some time and at his funeral, Zarin told Frankel that her late husband asked for her to fix their broken relationship. Bobby also reportedly told Zarin that she was wrong and needed to learn a lesson.
After learning what Bobby had told Zarin, Frankel told the magazine that she was happy with their reunion but also noted that everything between them is not all sunshine and roses. In fact, they may not have gotten to as good of a place as fans have hoped.
“We used to be friends, some things happened, her husband passed away. I went, I paid my respects. We are what we are,” Frankel explained.
As for Zarin’s rumored return to the show, which has been a hot topic since she and Frankel were seen together, Frankel didn’t seem to think a comeback was possible. “Jill will probably not be coming back based on the different dynamic last year. Life must go on,” said Frankel.
The Real Housewives of New York City is currently in production on its 10th season.
