Bollywood’s Ode to Ganesha with top songs dedicated to Ganpati Festival!

Ganpati festival is observed every year with immense fanfare and grandeur across the nation and worldwide. Popularly known as “Ganeshotsav” or “Vinayak Chaturthi”, the occasion is celebrated by Indians all across the globe. It marks an auspicious day of Lord Ganesha’s birth.  Mumbai and Maharashtra’s favourite deity, Ganesh Chaturthi is not just celebrated by the people, but even B-Town celebs like Nana Patekar, Govinda, Salman Khan and many others openly welcome Lord Ganesha to their homes and celebrate the festival with full dedication and participation.

Any celebration or festival is incomplete without Bollywood tadka. The festival has acquired a special place in Hindi movies.

Here is a list of top Bollywood songs dedicated to Ganpati that will set you enjoy and indulge in merrymaking.

Murti Ganesh Ki from Takkar (1980)

This famous song features Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra who gets as thespian as one can. Sung by Kishore Kumar and Mahendra Kapoor, the music is Composed by R.D. Burman. The film is a remake of Telugu movie “Devudu Chesina Manushulu” and stars Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Jeetendra, Zeenat Aman, Jaya Prada is lead roles.

Ganpati Apne Gaon Chale from Agneepath (1980)

Shot in real locations, this is a popular visarjan song featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty and Neelam, and is shot in real locations. Sudhesh Bhosle, Kavitra Krishnamurthy and Anupama Deshpande have lent their vocals for the number.

Deva Ho Deva Ganpati Deva  from Hum Se Badkar Kaun (1981)

 Directed by Deepak Bahry, this song features the entire cast of the film starring Mithun Chakraborty, Vijayendra Ghate, Ranjeeta Kaur, Amjad Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Kajal Kiran and Ranjeet.  It’s a must listen every year. The song is sung by Mohammed Rafi, Bhupinder Singh, Shailender Singh, Sapan Chakraborty, Asha Bhosle. The music is composed by Raam Laxman. Till the 1990s, the song held its position as the most popular Ganpati number and was played on countdown shows like Chitrahaar and Chayageet.

Ganpati Bappa Morya from Dard Ka Rishta (1982)

This remains one of the most celebrated songs of the Hindi movies. The film is directed by Sunil Dutt and sheds spotlight on a life threatening disease cancer. Hariharan has crooned this poignant rendition whilst the music is rendered by by Rahul Dev Burman.

Ganpati Bappa Agle Baras Tu from Aasoo Bane Angaarey (1992)

From the superhit film, “Aasoo Bane Angaarey” released in 1993, this song is picturised on Jeetendra, Deepak Tijori and Madhuri Dixit. Sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar and composed by Rajesh Roshan, the number still resonates with the festival.

Sindhoor Lal Chadayo from Vaastav (1999)

The song perfectly emanates spiritual vibes and captures the essence of the festival. The music is composed by duo Jatin Lalit and Ravindra Sathe has crooned the rendition. The song features by Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Shirodkar, Reema Lagoo and Shivaji Satam.

Shree Ganeshay Dheemahi from Virrudh (2005)

Sung by one of the best singers, Shankar Mahadevan, the song is from Mahesh Manjrekar’s “Virrudh” featuring actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham.

Morya Morya Re from Don (2006)

A vibrant song that is truly amazing for the exhibition of energy from Shah Rukh Khan. This is another popular track featured on Ganesh visarjan and sung by Shankar Mahadevan for Farhan Akhtar’s movie “Don”. It showcases the entry of Shah Rukh Khan’s look alike in the film. Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics whilst the trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy have composed the music.

Tera Hi Jalwa from Wanted (2009)

This song became an instant chartbuster for Salman Khan’s unique dance steps choreographed by Prabhu Deva, who also directed the film. This Bhajan-esque track is sung by Wajid Ali and Earl D’Souza and also features Anil Kapoor, Govinda and Prabhu Deva in special appearances.

Deva Shri Ganesha from Agneepath (2012)

Penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and composed by the magical duo of Ajay Atul, this song is from “Agneepath”, the official remake of the original film, and stars Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. This track is an ode to Lord Ganesha and revels in your inner strength. Hrithik Roshan manages to create a strong and powerful appearance without really “dancing”, and the cinematography elevates it to another level.  Ajay Gogavale has sung this fast-paced number.

Sada Dil Vi Tu Ga Ga Ga Ganpati from ABCD (2013)

From the directorial debut of choreographer, Remo D’ Souza, this song has fantastic choreography and drum beats, and is played at major pandals across the city. The song features new culture with a blend of tradition and modernism and delivers a magnificent treat to one’s ears with its foot-tapping music composed by Sachin-Jigar. The climax of the movie is also hidden in this song sung in Hard Kaur’s peppy voice. The visuals are mind-blowing as dancers make pyramids signing paeans to Ganesha.

Bappa from Banjo (2016)

This is a spectacular song featuring Riteish Deshmukh from the movie “Banjo” where he is seen wearing a shirt with Lord Ganesha painted on his palms. The music is composed by Vishal Shekhar and the lyrics are written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Vishal Dadlani has lent his vocals to the track. Marathi director Ravi Jadhav made his debut in Bollywood with this film.

Aala Re Aala Ganesha from Daddy (2017)

This song is from Arjun Rampal’s “Daddy” and is sure to become the latest rage at pandals across the city. Its orchestra type- setting makes you want to groove once it starts playing the peppy number. It shows Ganpati celebrations taking place on the streets of Mumbai. Composed by Sajid Wajid and sung by Wajid, the lyrics are penned down by Prashant Ingole and Sajid. Daddy is co-produced by Arjun Rampal and Rutvij Patel and also stars South Indian actress Aishwarya Rajesh. It’s the first biopic of Arjun Rampal revolving around the life of notorious gangster turned politician Arun Gawli.
