Some of the top Bollywood songs in the films that captures the celebrations of Janmashtami .

India is a country that is known for its diverse religions, vibrant culture across different states that gives the country enough reasons to celebrate various festivals.  Bollywood believes in making each festival a part of the Film and there have been numerous films celebrating the Janmashtami or portraying on the screen Lord Krishna’s naughtiness through the Bollywood songs penned with lyrics that can visualise the deep love for the Lord.

On the occasion of Janmashtami here are a few well known songs from Bollywood that got popular and captured the true essence.

Bluff Master – 1963

Director Manmohan Desai’s Bluff Master of 1963 starring Shammi Kapoor, Saira Banu had the song ‘ Govinda Aala Re’ that was an instant hit and was sung by Mohammad Rafi for the scene that shows the festival of Dahi Handi with the lively festival that portrayed on the screen and the expressions during the shot by Shammi Kapoor signifies the naughtiness .

Amar Prem – 1972

The song ‘ Bada Natkhat Hai Krishna Kanhaiya’ from the film Amar Prem of 1972 was a famous and much popular film depicting a mother’s love for her child . Troubled by Krishna’s mischievous antics that the mother sings to her child . Starring in the film  is the hit pair Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna and guest appearance of Vinod Mehra.

Badla – 1974

The Shot Mach Gaya Shor Dekh from the action film Badla in 1974 portrays the festival of Janmasthmi in a beautiful celebrations. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar starring in the film is Shatrughan Sinha opposite Moushumi Chatterjee, Johny Walker, Ajit, Mehmood with Bhagwan Dada in his typical dance style for the lead roles.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram – 1978

The 1978 popular film ‘ Satyam Shivam Sundarma’ showcases how Krishna as a child was worried about this dark complexion and would compare his skin colour with that of Radha.  Padmini Kolhapure as a child artist has portrayed this in a perfect way with the innocence as she sings and dances to this song that got popular besides the beautiful love story.

Teen Batti – 1979

Four decades ago the song from ‘Teen Batti’ in 1979 still remains quite a  popular song starring Sunil Dutt, Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy as the song created a perfect ambiance for a Dahi Handi celebration with the lyrics ‘ Teen Batti Wala Govinda Aala’  which portrayed the festival and its true spirit with its music composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Khud-Daar – 1982

The multi starrer film Khud-Daar in 1982 directed by Ravi Tandon featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Parveen Babi, Vinod Mehra, Sanjeev Kumar, Prem Chopra, Mehmood, Bindiya Goswami and Tanuja all in the lead roles had the famous song in the film ‘ Mach Gaya Shor Sari Nagri Re’ which depicted the perfect connect of Lord Krishna with Radha as the story goes .. The Song was originally recorded in Amitabh Bachchan’s voice but was later recorded with Kishore Kumar .

Vaastav – 1999

Vaastav of 1999 starring Sanjay Dutt , a blockbuster film showed him as one of the naughty fun loving character pictured on the song,’ Har tariff hai ye shor aye gokul ka chop… showcasing the traditional dahi handi celebrations sung by Vinod Rathod and Atul Kale with music composed by Jatin-Lalit.

Laguna- 2001

The epic drama film of 2001, ‘Lagaan’ depicted the naughty shades of Lord Krishna in the popular song ‘ Radha Kaise Na Jale . The song show cases the possessiveness of Radha over Krishna beautifully essayed by Gracy Singh opposite Aamir Khan.

Jhmootha Hi Sahi – 2010

The romantic comedy film Jhootha Hi Sahi of 2010 had the song ‘ Maiyya Yashoda’ directed by Abbas Tyrewala featuring John Abraham with Pakhi Tyrewala , Raghu Ram, Manasi Scott and Alishka Varde in the lead role.   The song depicted how the gopis would complain to Krishna’s mother Yashoda of his pranks on them and how the lord defended himself.

Oh My God! – 2012

The most recent was the 2012 Go Govinda from the film Oh My God! The Song perfectly captured the essence of the festival in at true spirit of the Dahi Handi . . The scene depicted the modern day celebrations with pomp and fanfare with Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva making special appearance in the song where in she breaks the Dahi Handi. The film featured Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in the pivotal roles.
